About Us

We are FIRST® Robotics Competition Team 5459, the TIGERS, from Ipswich, Massachusetts. Since our rookie year in 2015, we have belonged to New England FIRST®. Our team is made of 30 high school students whose skills and contributions to the team span various departments. Students of all skill levels, gender identities, and racial/ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to join the team and experience hands-on STEM education.

Strategy

Strategy is in charge of deciding what teams we should ally with during Alliance Selection. We look at the strengths and weaknesses of teams, gather and analyze data to see where our team can improve.

Electrical

The electrical team is in charge of wiring the robot. While mechanical builds the framework and software programs, electrical is the bridge between that allows our robot to function in its entirety.

The Drive Team controls the robot during the competitions. Using controllers, the driver and operator control the movement and actions of the robot. Our pit crew prep the robot for all of its matches!

Business

Business is in charge of obtaining all of the funding, raising awareness about Team 5459, and organizing meals and team merchandise. Business includes writing and media subgroups.

Mechanical

Mechanical builds the framework of the robot, and makes sure that everybody else has something to work off of. The mechanisms of the robot which allow us to execute the required tasks in a competition are built in mechanical.

Software

Software gives life to the robot. Software programs the many systems that allow the robot to move, “see”, and “think”. Software also installs the software, flashes the drives, sets up the radios, limelights, and more.
